Nine Straight: Men’s Basketball Hands Farmington First Conference Loss, Roos Take Over First Place

Canton, NY – Danny Santana tied a game-high with 18 points and Quran DuBois (12) and Ibu Smith (12) both scored in double figures as the SUNY Canton men's basketball team won its ninth consecutive game with a 72-62 win v. Maine Farmington in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Friday evening.

The loss is the first for the Beavers in conference play snapping their 13-game winning streak and vaults the Roos into first place in the conference standings. The two teams will have a rematch on Saturday in the Roos House.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Beavers opened up an early eight point lead six minutes into the contest (12-4), their largest lead of the game. Following a Roos timeout the team responded with a 9-0 run to take a one point lead.
  • Canton extended its lead to as many as nine taking a 30-23 lead into intermission. The Beavers shot just 25 percent from the field in the first half, while Canton posted a 33.3 percent mark.
  • The Roos used a 12-6 spurt out of intermission to open a 13 point advantage (42-29), their largest of the game 5:05 into the second stanza.
  • The hosts continued to hold a 59-50 lead with 4:56 to play in the game before back-to-back Amir Moss three-pointers trimmed the Canton lead to 61-57 with 3:51 to play.
  • Santana answered for the Roos with an old-fashioned three-point play to extend the lead to seven. Canton went 8-for-10 at the charity stripe over the final 2:07 to seal the win.  
  • Santana recorded 18 points on 8-for-16 shooting to go with nine rebounds. He went 7-for-9 from inside the arc. Quran DuBois and Ibu Smith supplied 12 points and four rebounds each with Smith adding three assists. The senior went 4-for-8 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
  • Kahdean Bennett, Juztin Chambers-Phillips and Brandon Averitt chipped in six points apiece, while Andrew Fitch and George Nehma combined for 16 rebounds.
  • Amir Moss led the Beavers with 18 points, while Bill Ruby (14 points, 11 rebounds) and Jack Kane (10 points, 12 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles. Terion Moss (12) also scored in double figures.
  • SUNY Canton shot 50 percent from the field (14-for-28) in the second half, while holding Maine Farmington to 33 percent shooting (15-for-45).
  • The 62 points is a season-low for the Beavers. 
 

WHAT'S NEXT
These two teams will have a rematch on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Roos will celebrate Senior Day.
