Denny, Dayter and Bush Lead Women’s Lacrosse; Cards Use Late Comeback to Win in OT

Plattsburgh, NY – Molly Denny, Samantha Dayter and Logan Bush combined for all the SUNY Canton scoring but Frankie Porcaro netted the game-winner 2 minutes and 17 seconds into overtime to lift Plattsburgh State past the women's lacrosse team, 13-12, on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Denny led all players with six goals, six ground balls and five caused turnovers. Dayter tallied four goals, one assist, four ground balls, four draw controls and three caused turnovers in her debut in a Roo uniform.
  • Bush also chipped in with a game-best seven draw controls to go with two goals, one assist and three ground balls.
  • The Roos led 12-8 after an extra attacker goal from Denny with 9:33 left in regulation. The Cardinals scored the final four goals of regulation including tying the game with 1 minute, 19 seconds to play in the second half.
  • Porcaro put home the game-winner, her second goal of the game, less than three minutes into the extra session.
  • Plattsburgh got on the board first 1:50 into the game off the stick of Kerri Corcoran. The Roos rattled off seven of the next nine goals to take a 7-3 advantage with just less than 10 minutes to play in the opening half.
  • Canton led 8-5 at intermission. The Roos potted the first two goals out of the break to lead 10-5 before the hosts tallied three consecutive goals to get within 10-8 with 10:20 left in regulation.
  • Dayter and Denny posted back-to-back goals nine seconds apart to give Canton a four-goal cushion before the late push from the Cardinals.
  • Nicole Piskorowski had a strong game in goal for the Roos making 22 saves (.629 save percentage).
  • Alexa Cassidy made three saves and allowed seven goals over the first 20 plus minutes for the hosts, while Sarah Braja turned aside seven shots allowing five goals the remainder of the game.
  • Allie Vangas paced the Cards with three goals and one assist, while Katie Kallamni also added three goals. Corcoran and Porcaro supplied two goals each.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The Roos are off until next Wednesday, March 4th, when they visit Utica College at 4 p.m.
