HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cortland got on the board first at 9:48 of the opening period. Alex Storjohann battled to earn the puck in the slot. Initially Ethan Homitz fanned on a shot but his backhand attempt found Douglas Elgstam who buried a shot into the open right side of net.
- Canton wasted no time responding just 32 seconds later. Sean Shepard freed the puck at the near boards at mid-ice as Bailey Conklin touched the puck on to a charging Tyson Bruce. He ripped a wrist shot beating Nick Modica high near post.
- The Roos dominated shots 17-7 in the second period but neither team was able to gain a lead heading into the third period.
- Canton appeared to take a 2-1 lead early on a rebound shot from Brett Bannister but the play was whistled dead early.
- The Red Dragons gained the momentum moments later when Elgstam scored his second of the night. Jacob Gaydos won the puck at mid-ice and tipped it forward to Sean Perichak who skated 2-on-1 with Elgstam who finished his eight of the season.
- Storjohann added a power play goal on a 5-on-3 at the 8:41 mark of the third and Trevor Veneklase added another goal just seconds after the second penalty of the 5-on-3 expired to seal the Cortland win.
- Michael Cerasuolo made 29 saves for the Roos, while Modica turned aside 35 shots for the Red Dragons.
- Cortland went 1-for-2 on the power play while killing off their lone penalty.
