Canton, NY – Joseph Werner posted career-highs of 25 points and 21 rebounds to carry the SUNY Canton men's basketball team to a 77-75 double overtime victory v. Maine Presque Isle in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Friday evening.
The 21 rebounds are the most since Romario Fletcher hauled down 24 rebounds in a 101-67 win v. the College of St. Joseph on January 8, 2017.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Werner paced all players with 25 points and 21 rebounds and ripped down 11 offensive rebounds. He shot 12-for-19 from the field and had six points in the two overtimes. Quran DuBois struck for 21 points to go with six rebounds and 11 of his 21 came after the end or regulation.
- Juztin Chambers-Phillips chipped in seven points making the start and Andrew Fitch added six points, eight rebounds and four blocks. Ibu Smith came off the bench to add five points and eight rebounds in 11 minutes of action.
- The Roos led 23-16 with just over five minutes left in the first half, but a 7-0 run for Maine Presque Isle tied the game at 23 apiece. The teams would head into intermission knotted at 27.
- UMPI led by as many as six in the second half but the Roos held a 59-54 advantage with 1:31 to play in regulation. Shyquinn Dix hit a jumper with 1:31 left and Griffin Guerrette hit was proved to be the game-tying three-pointer with 57 seconds to play.
- The Roos missed a pair of shots in the final minutes and George Nehma blocked a Dix jumper with time winding down as the teams headed to OT.
- Neither team led by more than two in the first overtime as Werner hit a jumper with nine seconds to play to tie it at 67 and Chambers-Phillips blocked a Deandre Duncombe three with two seconds left.
- Canton jumped out to a five point lead (74-69) midway through the second extra session after a DuBois jumped. The Owls responded with a 5-0 run but the Roos answered with the next three points to lead 77-74 after a pair of DuBois free throws with seven seconds left.
- Up three the Roos fouled and with four ticks left Guerrette made the first free throw and intentionally missed the second with Werner grabbing the defensive board. He missed a pair of free throws and a late desperation shot to win it for the Owls was off the mark.
- Guerrette and Duncombe paced the visitors with 19 points each, while Guerrette added 12 rebounds for a double-double. TeVon Hines chipped in a double-double of his own with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
