Santana Perfect from Three as Balanced Scoring Leads Roos to Weekend Sweep v. UMPI

Canton, NY Danny Santana scored a team-high 17 points going 5-for-5 from behind the arc to lead a balanced effort as the SUNY Canton men's basketball team completed a weekend North Atlantic Conference (NAC) sweep v. Maine Presque Isle with an 85-67 win on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos stormed out of the gates to a 13-0 lead and extended the advantage to 24-2 eight minutes in. Maine Presque Isle chipped away at the lead but the Roos still took a commanding 45-23 lead into intermission.
  • Danny Santana led all players with 15 points on 5-for-6 shooting, while Andrew Fitch added eight points. Griffin Guerrette led the Owls with nine points in the opening 20 minutes.
  • Canton continued to roll on all cylinders offensively in the second half extending their lead to as many as 29 with 6:42 to play as the team emptied the bench down the stretch.
  • Santana posted 17 points and five rebounds going 5-for-5 from three and 6-for-8 from the field. George Nehma added 11 points and six rebounds.
  • Joseph Werner stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Andrew Fitch finished with eight points and four blocks and Brandon Blaker and Juztin Chambers-Phillips tallied eight points each off the bench.
  • Kahdean Bennett and Ibu Smith netted seven points each and Smith ripped down six boards as nine Roos scored six or more points.
  • Guerrette was the lone Owl in double figures with 24 points, while Shyquinn Dix added nine points and nine rebounds and TeVon Hines tallied eight points and eight rebounds.
  • The Roos held the upper hand in points in the paint (38-26) and bench points (39-18).

The men's basketball team returns to action on Friday when they host Husson University at 7:30 p.m.
