Late Surge Helps Men’s Basketball to OT Win as Roos Sweep Mariners

Castine, ME – Andrew Fitch hit a shot as time expired in regulation to force overtime and the men's basketball team outscored the host Mariners 12-7 in the extra session to earn a 74-69 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Trailing by two with 5.3 seconds left in regulation Canton had a chance to tie with a side out-of-bounds. Kahdean Bennett took a contested shot from the left elbow and Joseph Werner's put back from the right side of the paint missed. However, Andrew Fitch tipped the ball in just as the clock expired to force overtime.
  • Quran DuBois scored six of his 15 points in the extra session as the Roos outscored Maine Maritime by five.
  • DuBois led the Roos with 15 points and added five rebounds, while Juztin Chambers-Phillips added 14 points. Andrew Fitch and Bennett supplied 10 points and seven rebounds each while Fitch added five blocks. George Nehma and Danny Santana chipped in nine and eight points, respectively.
  • DeMerrill Levy posted a double-double on 23 points and 13 rebounds for the Mariners, while Nicholas DePatsy added 21 points.
  • MMA led by 10 points early in the first half before the Roos cut the deficit to 32-29 at intermission.
  • The hosts led by eight with 2:53 remaining before Canton made a late surge outscoring MMA 8-0 over the final three minutes to tie the game and force OT.
