Yelvington & Robinson Score Twice in Setback v. Bears

Canton, NY – Noah Robinson and Josh Yelvington supplied two goals and an assist each but the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team dropped a 14-7 contest to visiting SUNY Potsdam on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Potsdam jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the opening quarter and took a 7-3 lead into intermission. The Roos outshot Potsdam 23-16 in the opening half but the Bears owned an 11-1 advantage in faceoffs which proved to make the difference.
  • Yelvington trimmed the deficit to 7-4 early in the second half but that was as close as the Roos would get the rest of the way.
  • In addition to his two goals and one assist, Robinson totaled seven ground balls. Brandon Schmidt and Kody Kocsis chipped in six ground balls apiece. Dante Coco, Brad Sandroni and Andrew Garrett also scored for the Roos.
  • Shots on goal were nearly even as Potsdam held a slim, 23-21 advantage. The Bears owned a 20-4 edge in faceoffs and 47-34 advantage in ground balls. The Roos clear game was strong as they were successful on 27 of their 30 attempts.
  • Tayte Murray paced the Bears with three goals and two assists, while Josh Huiatt added two goals and two assists. Gabe Carbone also recorded a hat trick and Luke Vitale won 19 of 23 faceoffs.
  • Kody Kocsis made nine saves in the loss, while Zach Sheridan turned aside 14 shots in the win.

The Roos return to conference play when they host NVU-Lyndon on Saturday at 1 p.m.
