Bowes and Denny Combine for 10 Goals in OT Loss to Carroll

Englewood, FL – MaryClare Bowes scored six goals and Molly Denny added four but Carroll University earned a 15-14 win in overtime against the SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team in non-conference action on Thursday at the Spring Fling Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Michaela Johnson scored the game-winner with 1 minute, 24 seconds remaining in the first overtime for Carroll.
  • Bowes and Denny combined for 10 of the Roos 14 goals, while Logan Bush added two goals and an assist and Erin Parks scored twice. Devin Kelly dished out three assists for Canton.
  • SUNY Canton led 13-8 after Bowes fifth goal of the game just under 10 minutes into the second half. From there, Carroll rattled off six straights goals, five of which came off the stick of Clara Jelacic.
  • Rachel Fordham gave the Pioneers just their second lead of the game when she found the back of the net with 6:15 remaining. Bowes tied it at 14-14 with 5:14 to play as neither team could break the tie as Johnson's overtime goal would decide the contest.
  • Molly Denny posted a game-high five caused turnovers and added three ground balls, while Kelly and Jessica Pele recorded a team-best five draw controls each and Pele tacked on three caused turnovers.
  • Madison Leary made three saves in the first half, while Nicole Piskorwoski turned aside five shots after halftime and in overtime. Shelby Schoob made three saves for Carroll.
  • Jelacic led the Pioneers with six goals, while Courtney Karls added four goals and one assist. Johnson also scored four times, including the game-winner.  
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The women's lacrosse team opens North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Saturday when they host Thomas College at 3:30 p.m.
