- Location: Roos House – Canton, NY
- Records: Skidmore (4-2-1) | SUNY Canton (2-3-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Skidmore, who is receiving votes in the latest USCHO Top 15 Poll, got on the board first as time expired in the first period. Avery Steele slipped the puck through the five-hole of Michael Cerasuolo from the left circle. Mike Gelatt and Kyle DelMaestro picked up helpers on the play.
- Canton wasted no time tying the game at one just 49 seconds into the second period. Kyler Matthews started the breakout from behind the Roos net, hitting Brett Bannister just across mid-ice. He left a pass for a charging Headland who beat Thoroughbred netminder Brian Kowalski blocker side despite being hooked on the play.
- The Roos made the ensuing power play pay off 23 seconds later when Sean David lit the lamp for the first time this season. Tyson Bruce skated the puck across the offensive blue line leaving a pass for Headland to his right. Headland and David skated 2-on-1 as David put home a one-timer at the far post off the setup from Headland.
- Skidmore responded less than a minute later when David Poirier collected the puck in front of his own net and hit Will Steele with a break out pass at the near boards. Poirier wristed a shot from well above the left circle beating Cerasuolo glove side.
- Canton took the lead once again at the 7:48 mark of the middle period. Jesse Farabee used a great individual effort bringing the puck up ice and toe dragged a defender flipping a back hander top shelf.
- Skidmore struck for three straight goals in the second half of the second period and early in the third as Matthew Rutigliano scored shorthanded and Nicholas Charron and Tim Allen also found the back of the net.
- McCormack got Canton within one on his first collegiate goal at 14:18 of the third. McCormack won the draw in the neutral zone back to Headland as he and Max Routledge executed a give-and-go along the far boards. Headland hit McCormack with a cross-ice pass as McCormack beat Kowalski stick side.
- With the Roos trailing by one with 3:53 remaining Skidmore was whistled for a roughing penalty giving Canton a golden power play chance. The Thoroughbreds penalty kill unit came up big killing off the infraction without allowing a Canton shot.
- Canton pulled Cerasuolo for the extra attacker with 31 seconds remaining but Reid Russell iced the game with an empty-netter for Skidmore with 17.7 seconds remaining.
- Cerasuolo made 23 saves in the loss for the Roos, while Kowalski turned aside 30 shots for the Thoroughbreds.
