Strong First Half, Balanced Scoring Leads Men’s Basketball Past Mariners, 76-64

Canton, NY – Jordan Stewart scored a game-high 18 points as the SUNY Canton men's basketball team built an 18-point lead on its way to a 76-64 win v. Maine Maritime Academy in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Stewart tied a game-high 18 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field, 3-for-5 from three-point range and 5-for-6 from the charity stripe. Robert Holliday, Jr. and Brandon Adkisson chipped in 13 points apiece, while Andrew Fitch and Quran DuBois tallied eight points each. Fitch also hauled down a game-best 13 rebounds to go with a game-high five blocks.
  • Canton jumped out to an early 7-0 lead as Nicholas DePatsy picked up two early fouls for the Mariners. The Roos extended their lead to 13-2 five minutes in and led by as many as 21 (41-20) and took a commanding 41-23 lead into intermission.
  • Brandon Adkisson and Quran DuBois led Canton with eight points each in the opening half, while Riley MacLeod tallied eight for the Mariners. The Roos shot 59 percent from the field and outscored MMA 24-10 in the paint.
  • The Mariners cut the lead to single digits at 54-46 for the first time after intermission.  with 9:11 remaining following a pair of DePatsy free throws.
  • MMA got within 57-53 with 6:45 to play but the Roos responded with a 15-2 run to lead 72-55 after five straight points from Stewart.
  • Riley Jorgenson paced the Mariners with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Adam Richardson (16) and DePatsy (13) also recorded double digit points.

"I was really pleased with how we battled back after the loss yesterday," Head Coach Ben Thompson said. "Winning today allows us to control our own destiny and is something that our guys really fought and clawed for this afternoon."


WHAT'S NEXT
The Roos return to the hardwood on Friday when they travel to take on Maine Presque Isle in NAC action at 5:30 p.m.
