Fitch Nearly Posts Triple-Double as Late Comeback Comes up Just Short v. MMA

Canton, NY – Andrew Fitch nearly recorded a triple-double as the Roos stormed back in the final minutes but fell in the last second, 68-66, to visiting Maine Maritime Academy in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Friday in the Roos House.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Adkisson led Canton with 16 points and added four assists, while Holliday, Jr. totaled 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Fitch nearly tallied a triple-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds, eight blocks and three assists Jordan Stewart totaled 11 points and Joseph Werner added nine.
  • After the visitors jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, Canton responded with a 13-0 run behind two three-pointers from Stewart and one from Holliday.  The Mariners trimmed the deficit to five with just over five minutes left in the opening half and was able to get within 31-28 at intermission.
  • Holliday, Jr. led all players with 11 first-half points, while Nicholas DePatsy had nine for the visitors. Andrew Fitch stuffed the stat sheet with four points, six rebounds and six blocks.
  • The Mariners took a double digit lead at 56-45 midway through the second half. MMA led 66-52 with 4:17 remaining but Canton stormed back ending the game on a 14-2 run.
  • Adkisson hit a jumper with 1:37 remaining and followed with a three-pointer with 46 seconds remaining to get within two. Canton got the ball back with three seconds remaining and a deep three-pointer at the buzzer for Holliday, Jr. just missed.
  • DePatsy paced the Mariners with 21 points, while Adam Richardson (15) and Riley MacLeod (14) also scored in double figures.
 

WHAT'S NEXT
These two teams will have a rematch on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Roos House.
