Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team split a pair of matches as it hosted the Canton Classic in the Roos House on Saturday.
The Roos swept Cazenovia 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-19) before falling in five sets to SUNY Potsdam (25-20, 25-13, 18-25, 23-25, 10-15).
Match 1 – Box Score
The Roos cruised in the opening match to a win in straight sets v. Cazenovia. The Roos finished the match with 27 kills including hitting .259 (12-5-27) in the second set.
Skye Hansen led the offense with eight kills, while
Marissa Ixtlahuac and
Melissa McMaster added five and four kills, respectively.
Peyton Nadeau posted three kills and three digs off the bench.
Jenna Roat recorded 15 digs, while
Peyton Robinson tallied a double-double with 20 assists and 12 digs.
Match 2 – Box Score
The Roos dominated play early on earning a pair of 25-20 and 25-13 victories over the first two sets but the Bears battled back to win three straight sets to claim the victory (25-18, 25-23, 15-10).
Potsdam led 8-5 at the midway point of the fifth set but the Roos got within 8-7. However, the Bears pulled away down the stretch for the 15-10 victory.
Ixtlahuac had a monster match for the Roos posting a career-high 23 kills, smashing her previous best of 16 last season. The junior hit .541 on 37 attempts (23-3-37). Meanwhile, classmate
Melissa McMaster was also extremely efficient hitting .429 (14-2-28).
Tatum Lafrance added eight kills and 11 digs.
Peyton Robinson and
Jenna Roat totaled 17 digs apiece with Robinson dishing out a match-best 48 assists. Syndey Uthe chipped in 13 digs defensively.
Ixtlahuac and Robinson were named to the All-Tournament Team for their performances throughout the weekend.Â
