Ixtlahuac and Robinson Post Career Marks as Women’s Volleyball Starts Season Unbeaten

Plattsburgh, NY – Marissa Ixtlahuac totaled 25 kills and Peyton Robinson dished out 80 assists as the SUNY Canton women's volleyball team opened the season with a pair of victories against host Plattsburgh State and Sage Colleges on Friday.

Match 1 – Box Score
The Roos outlasted the Cardinals in a thrilling match to start the 2018 season. The Roos fought off multiple set points in the first but a service ace from Megan Hyde gave the Cardinals the 29-27 opening win.

Canton trailed 21-19 in the second set but rattled off six straight points to earn an impressive 25-21, second set victory. Hansen had a pair of kills, while Robinson had an ace and kill along with three assists in the run.

With the set tied at 24 apiece in the third set the Roos capitalized off a pair of Cardinal hitting errors to secure the 2-1 lead with the 26-24 win. Plattsburgh State battled back with a 25-22 win in the fourth frame to force a decisive fifth set. The Roos scored seven of the final nine points breaking an 8-8 tie to earn the victory in the opener v. Plattsburgh.

Marissa Ixtlahuac had a monster match striking for 18 kills and hitting .577 on 26 swings. Melissa McMaster and Camryn Smeatin posted 12 kills apiece, while Skye Hansen totaled nine putdowns. Peyton Robinson orchestrated the offense to the tune of 51 assists, while chipping in nine digs defensively.

Jenna Roat (17), Tatum Lafrance (12) and Sydney Uthe (10) all supplied double digit digs. Roat pinpointed five service aces, while Hansen and Robinson tallied three each.

Match 2 – Box Score
SUNY Canton earned a convincing 25-16 win in the opener and held on late in the second set, 25-22. The team continued to control the play earning their first sweep of the season, 25-16.

Four players totaled seven kills apiece as Melissa McMaster, Smeatin, LaFrance and Ixtlahuac all accomplished the feat, while Hansen added six kills in a balanced effort. Robinson dished out 29 assists and added five digs, while LaFrance and Roat posted six digs each.

The women's volleyball team is back in action at Plattsburgh tomorrow when it squares off with Plymouth State and Utica College at 1 and 3 p.m., respectively.
