Plattsburgh, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team earned a pair of sweeps on Saturday against Plymouth State University and Utica College to finish the Best Western Plus-Ground Round Cardinal Classic a perfect 4-0.
The Roos downed the Panthers 25-22, 25-12, 25-15 before handing Utica College a 25-13, 25-22, 25-12 defeat in the nightcap. SUNY Canton beat both Plattsburgh State and Sage on Friday. Â
Match 1 – Box Score
The Roos posted double digit kills in every set in the opener against Plymouth State and combined for just three hitting errors over the final two sets. Meanwhile, Canton held the Panthers to just five kills each in the second and third sets.
Camryn Smeatin led the Roos with a career-best 10 kills, six digs and four blocks while hitting .308 in the opener.
Marissa Ixtlahuac,
Skye Hansen and
Tatum LaFrance posted eight, seven and six kills, respectively, in a balanced offensive effort.
Jenna Roat led all players with 14 digs, while LaFrance (12) and
Peyton Robinson (11) also recorded double digit digs. Robinson paced both teams' offenses assisting on 27 kills.
Match 2 – Box Score
The teams combined for 32 hitting errors in the second match, but the Roos nearly doubled up the Pioneers, 38-20, in the kills department and carried the service game with a 17-6 advantage in aces.
Ixtlahuac posted a match-best 11 kills, while LaFrance struck for a career-high 10 kills and added seven digs.
Melissa McMaster chipped in six kills and Robinson tallied 31 assists. Roat (12), Robinson (9),
Jenifer Morgan-Aubin (9) and
Sydney Uthe (8) were all solid defensively in the digs department.
Ixtlahuac was named to the All-Tournament Team for her performance on the court over the weekend. Robinson became the Roos all-time career assists leader in the NCAA era over the weekend as she now has 3,472 career assists. Robinson broke Mackenzie Mynter's previous mark of 3,302.
The women's volleyball team is back in action next weekend when it takes part in the Keuka College Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
