Castleton, VT – Trenton Yule tied the game with less than three minutes remaining but host Castleton scored the game-winner with 1 minute, 57 seconds remaining to earn an 11-10 win on Wednesday.
Both teams scored three goals in the opening quarter and the Roos edged the Spartans, 4-3 in the second quarter to lead 7-6 at intermission.
Dante Coco paced Canton with three scores in the first half, while Sam Siegel and Tyler Crowningshield had two each for Castleton.
After a back-and-forth second half, Yule netted his 25th of the season off a pass from
Kyle Smith to tie the game at 10 with 2:56 remaining. Crowningshield broke the tie with 1:57 to play. Canton (6-3) had possession in its offensive half of the field with less than 30 seconds remaining but a late turnover sealed the win for the Spartans (2-4).
Coco led the Roos with three goals, while Yule added two goals and an assist.
Josh Yelvington also scored twice, while
Brandon Rodee tallied a team-high five ground balls and
Luke DeGaetano had a game-best three caused turnovers.
Kody Kocsis made 15 saves between the pipes for the Roos, while Brandon Myron made 11 stops for Castleton.
