Canton, NY – Joe Deveny scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season and
Jeffrey Gauld dished out a pair of assists but four goals in the second period lifted visiting No. 6/7 nationally-ranked Oswego State to a 6-2 win v. the SUNY Canton men's hockey team on Friday.
Josh Nenadal gave the Lakers, who are ranked 6th by USCHO and 7th by D3hockey.com, (2-0) the early lead at 8:27 of the first period on his first goal of the season. The Roos (1-4) drew even with 58 seconds remaining in the opening period on a beautiful goal from Deveny on the power play. Gauld and
Sean David earned helpers on the play.
Austin Washkurak made 14 saves in the first period to keep the game tied after 20 minutes.
The Lakers erupted for four goals in the second period finding the back of the net three times on the power play. Anthony Passero made it 2-1 at 4:31 of the middle period and Josh Zizek cashed in the eventual game-winner at 11:28 with the skater advantage.
Canton was whistled for a five-minute major with three minutes remaining in the second and Oswego State made them pay tallying a pair of power play goals in a 36 second span off the sticks of Travis Broughman and Michael Gillespie.
Zizek added his second of the game at 10:53 of the third and Mammas lit the lamp for the second time in a Roo uniform off passes from Gauld and
Max Routledge for the 6-2 final.
Washkurak turned aside 32 shots for the Roos, while Cedric Hansen made 15 stops for Oswego State.
The Lakers went 3-for-9 on the power play, while the Roos were 1-for-2.
