Santana Leads Roos in Exhibition at NCAA D-I Cornell

Ithaca, NY – Danny Santana posted a team-high 15 points to lead the SUNY Canton men's basketball team in an 86-44 defeat in an exhibition game at NCAA Division I Cornell University on Thursday evening at the Newman Arena at Bartels Hall.
 
The game was the second for Cornell and only contest for SUNY Canton as part of the Central NY Classic.
 
The Roos jumped out to an early 7-2 lead just 2:26 into the contest behind five points from Santana. SUNY Canton led 11-8 following a layup from Robert Holliday, Jr. 4:09 in.
 
The Big Red (2-0) responded with a 23-0 run over the next eight minutes to take a 31-11 lead after Matt Morgan's third three-pointer of the evening. Cornell took a 42-18 lead into intermission.
 
Santana led Canton with seven points on 3-for-7 shooting in the opening half, while Brandon Adkisson chipped in five points and Holliday added four points. Morgan paced the Big Red with 11 points, while Jimmy Boeheim tallied six.
 
The Roos shot 28 percent from the field compared to 44 percent for Cornell. Canton committed 13 first-half turnovers, which led to 12 points for the Big Red.
 
 
SUNY Canton scored 26 points after intermission, an eight-point improvement from the opening half as both teams emptied their benches.
 
The Roos shot 25 percent from the field in the game, while Cornell hit on 43 percent of its field goals. Canton hung tough on the boards with the Big Red trailing just 53-40 and only 14-13 on the offensive glass.

Santana led the Roos with 15 points including going a perfect 6-for-6 at the charity stripe, while Holliday added eight points. Adkisson chipped in five points and Kevin Henri and George Nehma added four points apiece. Andrew Fitch hauled down a game-high 10 rebounds for Canton. 

Morgan finished with a game-high 22 points, while Jake Kuhn tallied 11 points in a balanced effort for the hosts.
 
The SUNY Canton men's basketball team will open its regular season on Saturday when it hosts Morrisville State College at 3 p.m. in the Roos House. The Big Red welcome Colgate University to Newman Arena on Sunday at 1 p.m.
