Four Score in Double Figures but Second Half Comeback Lifts Mustangs Past Roos, 92-86

Canton, NY – Four different Roos finished with double figure points but a strong start to the second half lifted Morrisville State to a 92-86 win v. the SUNY Canton men's basketball team in the season opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.

SUNY Canton hit six three-pointers in the first 6:07 to build a 20-11 lead following a Robert Holliday, Jr. trey. The Roos extended their lead to as many as 16 following an Ibu Smith jumper off a pass from Danny Santana that made it 51-35 in favor of the hosts. Canton took a 51-37 lead into intermission.

The Mustangs used a 14-0 run out of break to tie the game at 51 apiece 4:12 into the second half. Morrisville built a six point lead (60-54) following a Kevin Dennis layup with 13:59 to play.

The Roos regained the lead on multiple occasions including holding a 66-5 advantage following a Jordan Stewart three with 10:03 remaining.  

Morrisville led the final 8:37 of the contest after a made jumper from Derek Beames extending their lead to as many as 10 before Santana trimmed the deficit to three following a pair of made free throws after a Chris Dejean intentional foul with 2:19 to play. The Mustangs made their free throws down the stretch to hold on for the win.

Santana paced the Roos with 18 points, while Holliday, Jr. and Stewart added 16 points apiece. Brandon Adkisson chipped in 11 points and a team-high five assists. Joseph Werner nearly tallied a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds, while George Nehma chipped in eight points and five rebounds in 10 minutes off the bench.

Kevin Dennis tallied a game-high 22 points for Morrisville, while Justin Mitchell (15), Tyrin Miller (14), Beames (13) and Lamel Faison (12) all finished in double figures for Morrisville.
