Pedlar, Nehma & Fitch Record Double-Doubles as Roos Cruise Past Fighting Saints, 95-73

Canton, NY – Zaavan Pedlar, George Nehma and Andrew Fitch all posted double-doubles as SUNY Canton out rebounded visiting College of St. Joseph by 42 in a 95-73 victory in non-conference play on Monday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Pedlar led the Roos with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Nehma posted 15 points and 13 rebounds and Fitch chipped in 11 points and 12 boards. Danny Santana (15) and Brandon Adkisson (10) also scored in double figures, while Robert Holliday, Jr. and Quran DuBois tallied nine each.
  • St. Joseph's jumped out to an early 18-8 lead six minutes in. SUNY Canton responded with an 8-0 run to get within two.
  • The Roos led by as many as 11 points on multiple occasions in the opening half and took a 48-37 lead into intermission. Andrew Fitch and Zaavan Pedlar paced Canton with 11 points each, while combining for 11 rebounds in the opening 20 minutes.
  • The Fighting Saints used an 8-0 run out of intermission to get within 48-45 but it was all Roos from there as they extended their lead to double digits and to 20 points with over seven minutes remaining.
  • Canton out rebounded the Saints by 42 (76-34) including 26-11 on the offensive glass. The Roos held the upper hand in second chance points (24-4) and bench points (44-11) but 22 Canton turnovers led to 17 points for CSJ.  
  • The 76 total team rebounds are the most for the Roos in the NCAA D-III era and most since at least the 2010-11 season. Canton's previous high came when they hauled down 70 boards v. CSJ on January 8, 2017.
  • Charles Isaac, Jr. and Mickalous Snowden paced the Saints scoring attack with 23 and 21 points, respectively.
  • The Roos shot 43 percent from the field (37-for-86) and 24 percent from long distance (6-for-25), while CSJ hit on 33 percent of its field goals (27-for-81) and 31 percent of its three-pointers (10-for-32).

"I was really proud of our effort and physicality tonight," Head Coach Ben Thompson said. "St. Joe's plays so hard and for us to match their energy was really important. This was a really good team win and will help prepare us for conference play this weekend."

WHAT'S NEXT
The Roos open North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Friday when they visit Thomas College for the first game of a weekend doubleheader at 5:30 p.m.
