CHS BOX SCORE

Canton, NY –
Joe Deveny scored a pair of goals and three players finished with two assists but visiting Wilkes University earned a 7-5 win v. the SUNY Canton men's hockey team on Saturday evening.

The Roos (0-1) wasted no time getting on the board just 17 seconds in as Adam Petric and Reily McIntosh executed a nice give-and-go giving the freshman from Toronto his first collegiate goal. Wilkes responded less than a minute later off a faceoff win in their offensive zone with Nick Fea deking and finishing far post over the stick of Josh Erickson.

SUNY Canton committed back-to-back slashing penalties which resulted in an extended 5-on-3 for Wilkes. The Roos penalty kill, which went 7-for-8 on Friday night, was up to the task killing off both power play opportunities for the Colonels.

Wilkes (1-1) was called for a pair of minors two seconds apart but the Colonel PK also came up big killing off both penalties to keep the game tied at one. Wilkes added a goal off the stick of with 39 seconds left as they took a 2-1 lead after one.

Each team scored three times in a high scoring second period. Joe Deveny found the back of the net twice, once on the power play, while Sean David tallied the other goal for Canton. The Roos got within one following a Max Routledge tally with the skater advantage at 7:19 of the third, but Tyler Barrow put the game away with a power play score with 34 seconds remaining for Wilkes.

Matthews, Jeffrey Gauld and Sean Shepard all posted two assists each for the Roos.
