Canton, NY – Kody Kocsis stopped a career-high 25 shots and
Trenton Yule scored three times and added a pair of assists but visiting Utica College outscored the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team by eight in the first quarter to earn a 14-8 victory on Saturday.
Kocsis established a new career-high for stops eclipsing his 23 save performance from March 19th of last season v. Cazenovia.
The Roos (3-7) were held off the scoreboard until midway through the second quarter as the Pioneers (8-4) jumped out to an 8-0 lead as Ryan Desveaux, Nick Yelich and Brickman House scored two goals each in the first 15 minutes.
Josh Yelvington got the Roos on the board with 8:48 left in the opening half on his team-leading 25th goal of the season. SUNY Canton outscored Utica 3-2 in the second quarter including netting a pair of scores in the final 35 seconds to get within 10-3 at intermission.
Canton continued to battle scoring six out of seven goals in a stretch from the end of the second quarter through the beginning of the fourth period to get within 11-7 with 13:53 remaining after
Jake Sutton completed a hat trick off a feed from Yule. The Pioneers bounced back to score three of the final four goals for the 14-8 victory.
Yule finished with three goals, two assists and three ground balls, while Sutton posted three goals and Yelvington scored twice.
Brandon Rodee tied a game-high with eight ground balls and finished with a team-high 2 caused turnovers.
Kody Kocsis had a phenomenal game in net stopping 25 shots. Parker Smith made seven save in the first half to earn the win, while Harrison Bower turned aside eight shots after halftime.
