Canton, NY – Tyler Young scored a pair of goals and Dylan Vander Esch recorded a pair of assists as visiting SUNY Potsdam earned a 3-0 win over the SUNY Canton men's hockey team on Friday night in front of a packed Roos House crowd on Alumni Night.
Dylan Vander Esch moved the puck from the point to Kyle Thacker at the left circle. He hit Sean Winikates with a beautiful cross-ice pass as he roofed his first goal of the season.
The Bears (2-0-1) doubled their lead of the third period when Vander Esch picked up the puck at mid-ice and found Joey Gilhooly who deflected the puck to Tyler Young. Young poked the puck between the five-hole of
Michael Cerasuolo to double the lead.
The Roos (1-1-0) pulled the goalie for the extra skater with 2:01 remaining following a timeout, but Young added an empty netter with 56 seconds remaining to seal the 3-0 win.
Cerasuolo made 27 saves for the Roos, while Brendan McMenimen turned aside 21 shots in the shutout for Potsdam.
SUNY Canton honored its men's hockey alumni including the national championship teams from the 1970's and 80's in a ceremony at first intermission.
