Lancaster, PA – Walt Jeter posted game-highs of 20 points and 14 rebounds as the SUNY Canton men's basketball team earned an 83-66 win against Penn State Harrisburg in the consolation game of the Sponaugle New Year's Tournament on Tuesday evening.
In addition to Jeter's 20 points,
Sam Annorh added 19 points and
Romario Fletcher contributed 15 points and nine rebounds.
Adrian Williams (14) and
Rashad Richardson (10) also scored in double figures for the Roos (6-7).
Penn State Harrisburg (4-7) jumped out to an early 13-6 advantage, their largest of the game 3:32 into the contest. SUNY Canton used a 7-0 run culminating in a three-pointer from Annorh to knot the game at 13 apiece.
After the Lions regained a six-point advantage at 21-15 the Roos rattled off 13 consecutive points to open up a seven point advantage at 28-21 with 7:34 left in the opening half. Canton took a nine-point advantage at 41-32 into intermission.
The Roos led by at least five throughout the opening 10 minutes of the second stanza until Harrisburg cut the lead to three with 9:24 remaining at 60-57. From that point the Roos held the Lions to just nine points the rest of the way outscoring Harrisburg 23-9 on the closing run.
"We had a resilient effort from our team tonight," Head Coach
Ben Thompson said. "To respond like we did after last night's disappointing performance is very encouraging. We are excited to come back home and play in front of our fans this upcoming weekend."
Khalil White and Jazmon Harris paced Harrisburgh with 19 points each as the only two players in double figures.
The Roos held advantages in points off turnovers (28-15), second chance points (22-14) and points in the paint 42-34.
Walt Jeter was named to the All-Tournament for his performance throughout the tournament.
