CHS BOX SCORE

Fredonia, NY – Erik Hallin (Goteborg, Sweden) netted his first collegiate goal 11 minutes into the third period to lift the SUNY Canton men's hockey team to a 2-1 road win against host Fredonia on Saturday night at Steele Hall Ice Arena.

The sophomore slotted his first career tally when Joe Casale (Niagara Falls, NY) found him open in the slot off a pass out of the right corner. Thomas Crabtree (Knoxville, TN) also assisted the goal at the 11:00 mark of the third period to break a 1-1 tie.

The offenses struggled early combining to go 0-for-5 on the power play in what proved to be an extremely even scoreless opening period. Josh Sova (Oswego, NY) opened the scoring at 13:15 of the middle period on his team-leading 10th goal of the season. Ben Beasley (Burlington, ON) and Joe Deveny (Stouffville, ON) earned helpers on the play.

Fredonia (7-11-3) was quick to respond tying the game just 38 seconds later off the stick of Marcus Ortiz. Bobby Polacheck was credited with an assist on the play as the teams went to second intermission tied at one.

The Blue Devils pulled the goalie for the extra skater with 25 seconds remaining but were unable to get a shot on goal.

The Roos (5-15-3) outshot the Blue Devils 38-32 in the contest as both teams went 0-for-7 on the power play. Josh Erickson (Woodbury, MN) turned in an impressive performance between the pipes stopping 31 of the 32 shots he faced. Eric Bogart stopped 36 shots in goal for Fredonia.

The men's hockey team is back in action next weekend with a home-and-home series against Oswego State.
