Canton, NY – SUNY Canton's four seniors shined during their final home game of the season as the Roos improved to 18-3 on the season with a 93-69 victory against the College of St. Joseph on Sunday afternoon.
Vonallen Pickett (Brooklyn, NY) led the Roos with 16 points, while
Kam Peterkin (Harlem, NY) added 14 points and a game-high four assists to go with five rebounds.
Khalil Bratton (Queens, NY) posted 11 points and six rebounds and
Matt Spencer (Gouverneur, NY) hauled down six boards and added a game-high four blocks.
Sam Annorh (Queens, NY) also chipped in with 15 points for the Roos.
SUNY Canton jumped out to an early 8-0 lead three and a half minutes into the game behind six points from Pickett and a jumper from Peterkin. The Roos extended their advantage to 13 six minutes in after an old-fashioned three-point play from Pickett.
The Fighting Saints (18-8) scored the next 11 points to get within two midway through the half. The Roos finished the period strong going on a 14-1 run over the final 4:55 to take a commanding 43-28 lead into intermission.
Annorh led all players with 12 points in the first half on 4-for-6 shooting, while Pickett added 11 points hitting on four of his seven shots. Kareem Brown paced CSJ with 11 points.
The Roos cruised in the second half extending their lead to as many as 30 after a Bratton slam with 5:15 remaining. Each of the four seniors were taken out one by one as they received roars from the crowd. Spencer, Pickett, Peterkin and Bratton were all honored in a pre-game ceremony.
Rashad Richardson (Rochester, NY) and
Romario Fletcher (Queens, NY) posted eight points each, while
Laquan Robinson (Spring Valley, NY) recorded seven points. Eleven different players scored in the contest for SUNY Canton.
Brown led the Fighting Saints with 24 points and 10 rebounds, while Antonio Gordon netted 18 for the Fighting Saints. The Roos held the upper hand in fast break points (14-6) and got a huge lift from their bench outscoring the CSJ reserves, 49-26.
