Amherst, MA – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to Bridgewater State and UMass Boston on the opening day of the Hall of Fame Tournament. The Roos fell 3-0 to the Bears (17-25, 21-25, 22-25) before falling to the Beacons 3-0 (21-25, 18-25, 12-25).
Match 1 – Box Score
Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) led the attack with 10 kills and eight digs, while
Shea Norton (Batavia, NY) added eight kills.
Jenna Roat (Penfield, NY) added a match-high 21 digs, while
Peyton Robinson (Bloomfield, NY) chipped in a team-high 25 assists.
SUNY Canton jumped out to a 15-13 lead in the opening set following a kill from Cornish, but Bridgewater State responded with 12 of the final 14 points to secure the 25-17 first set win.
The Roos started strong with an early 9-3 advantage in the middle frame but with the teams knotted at 21 apiece the Bears finished with four straight points to secure the 25-21 win. The third set proved extremely even with SUNY Canton opening up a 21-18 advantage but Bridgewater State tallied seven of the final eight points to earn the sweep.
Match 2 – Box Score
Cornish paced the Roos with nine kills and nine digs, while Robinson added 22 digs and seven digs, Norton chipped in with eight digs and Roat added 15 digs.
Jocelyn Racette (Port Kent, NY) recorded nine digs off the bench for SUNY Canton.
The women's volleyball team returns to action on the second day of the 2016 Hall of Fame Tournament on Saturday when it takes on host Amherst College at 10 a.m. followed by a 1 p.m. matchup with Trinity College.
