Amherst, MA – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to host Amherst College and Trinity College to round out play at the Hall of Fame Tournament on Saturday. The Roos fell 3-0 to the Lord Jeffs (23-25, 22-25, 13-25) before dropping a 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 18-25, 14-25) decision to the Bantams.
Match 1 – Box Score Â
Shea Norton (Batavia, NY) and
Kelsy Cornish (Honeyoe, NY) led the Roos with 12 kills each, while Cornish added 18 digs.
Jenna Roat (Penfield, NY) led the team defensively with 24 digs and added a match-best three service aces, while
Peyton Robinson (Bloomfield, NY) was impressive both offensively with 33 assists and defensively with 11 digs while also adding a pair of aces.
Haley Riley (Lowville, NY) also recorded eight kills for SUNY Canton.
The Roos were impressive in the opening set with 17 kills and a .361 hitting percentage (17-4-36), but Amherst was also effective with 15 kills and just three errors. The Lord Jeffs produced 32 kills compared to just 19 putdowns for SUNY Canton over the final two sets.
Match 2 – Box Score
Norton once again paced the Roos with 12 kills, while Cornish added a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs. Roat recorded a match-high 23 digs, while Robinson dished out 39 assists to go with 10 digs. Riley posted nine kills and
Morgan Wicks (Hartford, NY) added 14 digs.
SUNY Canton hit for 10 kills in the opening set and 11 Trinity errors proved costly. The Bantams struck for 37 kills compared to just 15 errors the remainder of the match as they won the final three sets.
Roat was named to the All-Tournament Team for her performance throughout the weekend.Â
