CHS BOX SCORECanton, NY – Visiting Brockport jumped out to a three goal lead after the first period leading to a 7-2 victory against host SUNY Canton on Friday evening in the Roos House.
Brockport opened the scoring with two goals in a 67 second span to go up 2-0 7:15 into the first. Zac Sikich opened the scoring at the 6:08 mark when he buried his fifth of the season off passes from Dylan Shapiro and Aidan Verbeke. The Golden Eagles (9-8-2) doubled their lead moments later when Matt Meredith beat the opposing goaltender for the first time on the season off the setup from Tim Kielich.
The Golden Eagles continued the offensive outburst when Jesse Facchini deflected home a Trevor Simonick shot from the point at 10:40. James Ryan also earned a helper on the play as Brockport led 3-0 after one.
SUNY Canton (3-14-3) continued to put on pressure and that paid off 2:21 into the middle period when
Kasey Kulczycki (Laval, QUE) slotted his fourth of the season off a pass from
George Curry (Schaumburg, IL). The Roos trailed 3-1 after 40 minutes of play.
Sikich netted his second of the game 34 seconds into the final period, this one coming short-handed. Just less than three minutes later the Golden Eagles special teams paid off again as the power play unit scored off the stick of Ryan Kangas. Sikich completed the hat trick at 11:37 to put Brockport up 6-1.
Eric Witzel (Ottawa, ON) scored his sixth of the season with the skater advantage at 15:28.
Kyle Matsumoto (Walnut, CA) hit
Josh Sova (Oswego, NY) with a pass behind the net from near to far side. Sova fired a quick pass to Witzel in the slot who one-timed a shot past Jake Moore. Brockport added a late goal for the 7-2 final.
Josh Erickson (Woodbury, MN) turned aside 25 shots, while
Louie Puig (Chicago, IL) made four saves in relief. Moore stopped 19 shots for the Eagles.
