Haley Riley (Lowville, NY) had big days as the SUNY Canton women's volleyball team stayed perfect with a pair of sweeps against SUNY Potsdam and Plymouth State on Saturday at the Roos House.
The Roos took care of business against the Bears (1-1) in straight sets 3-0, (25-10, 27-25, 25-15), before recording their four consecutive sweep with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-14) victory against Plymouth State in their afternoon match-up.
Game 1 - BoxKelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) continued to have the hot hand offensively stuffing the stat sheet to the tune of 10 kills, four service aces and three digs.
Morgan Bills (Walworth, NY) and
Rachel Lowther (Woodbridge, VA) floored seven kills apiece, while Riley put down six balls.
Bills was effective all over the court adding four blocks and three aces to her kill line. Meanwhile,
Kiana Archer (Plattsburgh, NY) and
Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) combined for 20 digs. Robinson led the way with 34 assists.
The Roos got off to a quick start hitting .400 in the opening frame (12-2-25), while Potsdam struggled with a negative attack percentage (4-6-24). SUNY Canton finished with its most kills of the day (14) in the second stanza against the Bears and closed out the match with 11 putdowns.
Game 2 - BoxIn its second match of the day the Roos used great balance finishing with at least 10 kills in all three sets. As a team they hit .220 or better in every frame, while committing just four hitting errors in the entire match. The SUNY Canton service game was strong as they equaled their total from the Potsdam match with 12 aces.
Riley had her best performance as a Roo finishing off 10 different points, while Lowther posted seven digs. Cornish, Carroll and Bills combined for 11 of the team's 12 service aces and Robinson assisted 27 kills to go with seven digs. Carroll and Cornish continued to play lockdown defense registering 13 and 10 digs, respectively.
The women's volleyball team has the workweek off before returning to action on Friday at the SUNY Potsdam Tournament. The Roos will face Johnson State College at 4 p.m., followed by a 6 p.m. match-up with Regis College.
