Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team continued its perfect start to the season with a pair of sweeps against Cazenovia College and Plattsburgh State on Friday afternoon in the Roos House. The Roos (3-0) defeated the Wildcats 3-0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-21) before downing the Cardinals in straight sets 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-22).
Game 1 – Box ScoreThe hosts received a big performance from
Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) on her birthday as she floored eight kills without committing a single error and added six digs.
Morgan Bills (Walworth, NY) added seven kills, while
Haley Riley (Lowville, NY) chipped in with six kills and two blocks. Cornish and
Peyton Robinson (Bloomfield, NY) pinpointed three aces apiece while Robinson dished out 32 assists.
Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) led the way with 10 digs.
The Roos finished with 33 kills and 11 aces, while Cazenovia recorded marks of 11 kills and two service aces. SUNY Canton was extremely efficient on their attack attempts finishing with a .358 hitting percentage in the match. The team's high point came in the opening set when they struck for 16 kills without committing an error in 26 attack attempts.
Game 2 – Box ScoreThe Roos got off to another quick start in their second match of the day putting down 15 balls for a .343 hitting percentage. Plattsburgh finished with 11 kills in the second set but 14 errors in the match cost the Cardinals as the hosts earned the straight set win.
The team once again received a balanced performance as
Rachel Lowther (Woodbridge, VA) posted a match-best nine kills. Bills added eight kills and five service aces, while
Morgan Wicks (Hartford, NY) finished with seven kills. Cornish had a monster match defensively registering a match-high 20 digs, while Carroll and
Kiana Archer (Plattsburgh, NY) both recorded double digit digs with 12 and 10, respectively. Robinson was the catalyst offensively with 25 assists.
What's Next?The women's volleyball team is back in action on Saturday in the second day of the SUNY Canton Invitational when it will host a pair of matches. The Roos square off with Route 11 rival SUNY Potsdam at 10 a.m. in the Roos House, before a 2 p.m. match-up against Plymouth State.
