Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team used a sweep and a five set win to earn a pair of victories against Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Rochester on Saturday at the Roos House.
The Roos earned a 3-0 victory against the Tigers (25-20, 25-18, 25-18) before taking down the Yellowjackets 3-2 (25-19, 25-23, 17-25, 18-25, 15-10).
Match 1 - BoxRIT finished with six more kills than the Roos in the match (34-28) but SUNY Canton made its swings count producing an excellent team hitting percentage of .278 compared to a .140 mark for the Tigers.
Haley Riley (Lowville, NY) led the way with a .529 hitting percentage as nine of her 17 attack attempts resulted in kills.
Morgan Bills (Walworth, NY) also added nine kills without an error on 18 attempts.
Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) posted a match-best 12 digs, while
Lindsay Bryer (Wilson, NY) added 10.
Peyton Robinson (Bloomfield, NY) dished out 18 assists.
Match 2 - BoxThe Roos jumped out to an early two set lead with 25-19 and 25-23 victories in the first two frames. Rochester responded with two wins in the third in fourth sets in what proved to be an extremely even match. SUNY Canton would prevail in the fifth and final set 15-10. Both teams finished the match with exactly even marks of 58 points and 48 kills.
Bills led the way offensively with 15 kills and added nine digs, while Riley and
Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) tallied nine kills each. Carroll was a force defensively with 28 digs, while Bryer added 17. Robinson assisted 44 kills and added 14 digs. For her performance throughout the three games
Morgan Bills was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The women's volleyball team is back in action next weekend when it takes part in the Fredonia Tournament. The Roos begin play on Friday at 5 p.m. against Hilbert College.
