Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team used a strong team performance behind a match-high 13 kills from senior middle
Morgan Bills (Walworth, NY) to earn a 3-1 victory against crosstown rival St. Lawrence University on Tuesday evening in the season opening match for both teams at the Roos House.
Bills also finished with a match-high .429 attack percentage on 28 attempts leading the Roos to an overall team hitting percentage of .234. Meanwhile, the Saints hit at just a .125 mark on 128 team attack attempts.
After getting off to a slow start in the opening set the Roos responded out of a timeout by Head Coach Carol LaMarche and capped the opening frame with a 25-19 victory. St. Lawrence bounced back with an 11 kill second stanza to knot the match at one set apiece. The Roos would close out the set in four as they combined for 21 kills in a pair of matching 25-18 third and fourth set victories.Junior
Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) posted eight kills and 11 digs, while classmate
Morgan Wicks (Hartford, NY) floored six kills. Freshman
Peyton Robinson (Bloomfield, NY) set up the attack to the tune of 37 assists, while senior libero
Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) was a force defensively with a match-best 20 digs.
