Strong Second Half Carries Men’s Lacrosse to 12-8 Win at Wells

Aurora, NY – The SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team outscored host Wells College 8-1 after halftime to earn a 12-8 road win on Tuesday.

The Roos showed a great defensive effort limiting the Express (1-5) to just one score over the final 30 minutes including holding them scoreless over the final 26:31. Trailing 8-6 after an Aaron Heisey tally with 11:31 remaining the SUNY Canton offense started to pick up.

Ryan Cardiff (Albany, NY) got the Roos within one during a man-up opportunity off a Cam Carter (Colonie, NY) feed with 9:54 left in the third. Steve Novak (Seymour, CT) hit Mike Statt (Rochester, NY) to knot the game at 8-8 just two minutes later. Garrett DiTullio (Potsdam, NY) gave the Roos their first lead of the game with 3:33 remaining in the period off the set-up from Jack Elberty (Canton, NY).

SUNY Canton (1-7) extended its lead over the final 15 minutes as Cardiff, Novak and Tony Carden (Franklin, MA) all found the back of the net to secure the 12-8 victory. Corey Spuck (Rochester, NY) stopped 10 shots in the win, while Tyler Bischoff made nine saves for Wells.

Chris Gamble (Carthage, NY) and Cardiff led the way offensively with three goals apiece, while Novak was equally effective passing and scoring finishing with two goals and two helpers. DiTullio chipped in with a goal and two assists.

Elberty was effective defensively with a game-high four caused turnovers to go with four ground balls. Devin Gruneisen (Potsdam, NY) recorded a game-best seven ground balls, while Zack Opiela (Canandaigua, NY) and Luke DeGaetano (Canandaigua, NY) registered five ground balls apiece.
