Box ScoreCanton, NY – Visiting SUNY Cortland used five third period goals to erase a 2-1 deficit en route to a 6-3 victory against host SUNY Canton on Saturday night at the Roos House.
After a scoreless first period Cortland (9-9-3) got on the board first just 31 seconds into the second on the power play. Casie Garrison lit the lamp for the seventh time this season off passes from Tommy Nolan and Andrew McCann.
Dave Schneider (Indianapolis, IN) found the back of the net on a one-timer pass from left to right from
Brett Costello (Lombardy, ON) at 13:03.
Ben Beasley (Burlington, ON) also earned a helper on the play.
Schneider added his fourth goal in the last two games at 18:53 to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.
Kasey Kulczycki (Laval, QUE) and
George Curry (Schaumburg, IL) were credited with assists. The Roos (7-14-1) took a one-goal lead into the second intermission.
Nolan tied it at two just 20 seconds into the final frame on his eighth of the season. He converted on the power play off the set-up from McCann. Less than two minutes later Jeff Vanzant was the recipient of a Garrison pass netting his second of the season.
Cortland made it 4-2 at the 5:05 mark as Nick Zappia lit the lamp for his team-leading 22nd of the season. Less than a minute later McCann tallied his third point of the night on his sixth marker of the season.
The Roos got within 5-3 on the power play at 8:57.
Trenton Yule (Oswego, NY) fired a shot from the left side that was turned aside by Drew Weigman. Curry was sitting on the doorstep and buried the rebound to get the deficit within two. Six minutes later SUNY Canton had a golden chance on the power play but Dan Broderick and Zappia skated in on a 2-on-1. Broderick made a quick pass left to right and Zappia buried it top shelf for the short-handed insurance marker.
Louie Puig (Chicago, IL) stopped 17 shots in 46:03, before
Christopher Marsillo (Lincroft, NJ) turned aside five shots in relief. Weigman made 30 saves for the Red Dragons.
