Ryan Cardiff (Albany, NY) each scored a pair of fourth quarter goals but SUNY Canton was unable to overcome an early deficit falling 17-6 to host Morrisville State College on Saturday afternoon. The contest was the season opener for both teams.
Garrett DiTullio (Potsdam, NY) scored the first goal of the 2015 lacrosse season for SUNY Canton with 2:36 remaining in the first quarter off a pass from
Jack Elberty (Canton, NY). The tally would be the only of the first half as the Mustangs took a 9-1 lead into intermission.
Elberty netted the first goal of his young career in the third quarter and Gamble and Cardiff each slotted a pair of goals as the Roos outscored Morrisville State 4-2 in the final period.
Corey Spuck (Rochester, NY) stopped 22 shots in net for SUNY Canton, while Chris Fiore made eight saves for the Mustangs. Cardiff and Gamble each picked up four ground balls, while
Devin Gruneisen (Potsdam, NY) led the team with three caused turnovers.
Josh Blair (Massena, NY) went 6-for-7 in the faceoff circle.
