Men’s Basketball Hits 15 Win Mark with 67-42 Road Win

Box Score

Alfred, NY – The SUNY Canton men's basketball team reached the 15 win mark with a 67-42 win against host Alfred State College on Sunday afternoon. The wins are the most in a season in 17 years since the 1997-98 squad went 19-7 under legendary coach Erich von Schiller.

SUNY Canton (15-5) shot 40 percent from three-point range including knocking down six in the opening half. Three of those treys came from sophomore Adam Felt (Lisbon, NY) who helped the Roos go on a 14-3 run during a 3:35 stretch of play in the opening half.

Felt broke the 6-6 tie with his first knockdown from distance and Romario Fletcher (Queens, NY) followed with a flush. After a Dan Gormley three got the Pioneers within two SUNY Canton responded with three consecutive threes, two from Felt and the other from Kevin Baksh (Brooklyn, NY). The Roos took a commanding 35-16 lead into break.

The Roos cleared their bench for a majority of the second half but there was no letdown as the team continued to roll offensively on its way to the convincing victory.

Fletcher led all players with 13 points and 10 rebounds, his fourth double-double of the season. He was the only player in double figures in a balanced scoring effort for SUNY Canton. Felt added nine points, while big man Laquan Robinson (Spring Valley, NY) tied a game-high with 10 rebounds.

Tommy Huston paced the Pioneers (5-20) with 13 points. The Roos held the upper hand in bench points (36-22) and second chance points (16-6).

The men's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Wednesday when it hosts SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry at 6:00 p.m. in the Roos House. The game is a make-up from February 6th.
