Lepone Posts Three Point Night at Geneseo

CHS BOX SCORE

Geneseo, NY –
Freshman Nick Lepone (Richmondhill, ON) posted two goals and added an assist as the men's hockey team was tied with host SUNY Geneseo after two periods but the Blue Knights pulled away in the final frame for the 7-4 victory on Friday night.

Stephen Collins opened the scoring 4:16 into the contest for Geneseo (1-0-2) off passes from Trevor Hills and Anthony Marra. The Roos (1-2-0) were quick to respond as Lepone buried his first career goal off the setup from classmate J.P. Langlois (Amos, QC).

Trevor Hills would score his first of three goals at 7:34 of the first on the power play off passes from Collins and David Ripple to put the Knights back on top. The Roos continued to show their resiliency as Dylan Rosen (Clarkston, MI) slotted his first career tally in his first game at 14:39. The teams took a 2-2 tie into first intermission.

Geneseo struck again at 4:13 of the second on Arthur Gordon's second of the season to regain the lead. Lepone lit the lamp for the second time of the night just 1:12 later. Josh Sova (Oswego, NY) and Eric Witzel (Ottawa, ON) were credited with assists on the tally.

The Roos took their first lead of the contest midway through the middle period with the skater advantage. Witzel put home his second of the season off passes from Sova and Brandon McMartin (Toronto, ON). The hosts knotted the game at four with just more than four minutes to play on Hills second of the night as the teams were tied after 40 minutes of play.

Hills finished off the hat trick 3:43 into the third netting the eventual game-winner. Collins and Anthony Marra also added third period scores leading to the 7-4 final.

Josh Erickson (Woodbury, MN) turned aside 34 shots between the pipes for the Roos. Matt Leon made 10 saves for Geneseo while allowing four goals over the first 29:25. Devin McDonald relieved him stopping all 11 shots he faced over the final 30:35 to secure his first victory of the season.

Both teams went 1-for-5 with the extra skater on the evening. These two teams will have a rematch Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in Genseo.
