Women’s Volleyball Splits v. Wells and Oberlin on Halloween

Houghton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball dropped a five set match to Wells College before coming back to win in four sets v. Oberlin College on Saturday in the Highlander Tournament. The Roos nearly came back from two sets down dropping a 3-2 (22-25, 14-25, 28-26, 25-22, 14-16) contest to the Express before earning a 3-1 (20-25, 27-25, 26-24, 25-23) win v. the Yeowomen.

Match 1 – Box
Wells College (18-9) was on fire to open the match finishing with 29 kills over the first two sets en route to 25-22 and 25-14 wins. The Roos hung tough earning thrilling 28-26 and 25-22 third and four set victories, respectively. SUNY Canton struck for 30 kills in those frames. The match came down to the decisive fifth set as the Express narrowly escaped 16-14.

Haley Riley (Lowville, NY) led the way with 17 kills, while Rachel Lowther (Woodbridge, VA) and Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) added 13 putdowns apiece. Peyton Robinson (Bloomfield, NY) dished out a match-high 50 assists.

Match 2 – Box
SUNY Canton battled back from a one set deficit to claim the final three sets of the match by just the minimum of two points earning exciting 27-25, 26-24 and 25-23 wins as they posted 12 kills apiece in each set.

Cornish finished with 16 kills and 23 digs, while, Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) added 26 digs. Robinson dished out 44 assists to go with her 17 digs. Riley and Lowther recorded 14 and 9 kills, respectively.

The women's volleyball team opens play in the USCAA National Championships on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. v. Berea College in Dana Hall.
