Roos Split Matches v. Utica and Houghton

Houghton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team earned a split on the first day of the Houghton College Invitational on Friday. The Roos (25-8) swept Utica College 3-0 (25-9, 25-20, 25-23) in the opener before falling 3-0 (14-25, 7-25, 20-25) to the host Highlanders in the nightcap.
 
Match 1
The Roos finished with 44 kills compared to just 27 for Utica College in the opener. SUNY Canton had at least 13 kills in every set on its way to hitting .272 on 125 attack attempts. Meanwhile, the Pioneers hit just .135 on 111 attempts.
 
Haley Riley (Lowville, NY) led the offense with 14 kills, while Lindsay Bryer (Wilson, NY) added a double-double on 10 kills and 13 digs. Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) posted 20 digs, while Peyton Robinson (Bloomfield, NY) dished out 38 assists. Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) recorded 16 digs to go with seven digs, while Rachel Lowther (Woodbridge, VA) tallied eight kills.
 
Match 2
The Highlanders proved strong in the nightcap of the doubleheader posting 37 kills with just eight errors on a .296 hitting percentage. Meanwhile, the Roos had 23 kills compared to 19 errors.
 
Riley once again led the way with seven kills, while Carroll registered 22 digs. Robinson recorded a double-double on 20 assists and 11 digs.
 
The women's volleyball team closes out the regular season on Saturday when it squares off with Wells College at 1 p.m. followed by a 3 p.m. matchup with Oberlin College.
