Seniors Shine in Five Set Victory v. Alfred State on Senior Day

Canton, NY – All four SUNY Canton seniors had huge performances keying the women's volleyball team to a thrilling 3-2 (25-4, 21-25, 15-25, 25-21, 15-9) victory on Senior Day on Sunday in the Roos House.

Following a pre-match ceremony honoring seniors Morgan Bills (Walworth, NY), Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON), Rachel Lowther (Woodbridge, VA) and Kiana Archer (Plattsburgh, NY), the Roos (23-7) came out on fire scoring a remarkable 25 of 29 points in the opening set.

The Pioneers (22-4) responded pulling out a 25-21 second set victory before cruising in the third set to take a 2-1 lead. SUNY Canton got off to a quick 17-9 lead in the fourth frame but Alfred State scored nine of the next 11 points to get within 19-18. In a set of runs the Roos rattled off six of the final nine points to send the match to a decisive fifth set.

SUNY Canton led 9-5 midway through the final frame and finished strong to secure the thrilling five set victory against teams that are tied at No. 3 in the most recent United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Coaches Poll.

All four seniors had remarkable performances in their final regular season home matches. Bills posted a new career-high with 23 kills, bettering her performance from last Saturday v. Hunter College where finished with 21. Carroll and Archer both put in remarkable efforts defensively totaling 25 digs each. Meanwhile, Lowther was just two kills short of her season-high finishing with eight putdowns.

Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) tallied 11 kills and 11 digs, while Peyton Robinson (Bloomfield, NY) finished with 46 assists and 10 digs. The Roos finished with 48 kills in the match committing just 11 errors on 163 attack attempts.
