Providence, RI – The SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team opened the New Year dropping a 2-0 road decision to Johnson & Wales University in a tightly contested game on Saturday evening at Lynch Arena.
After nearly two periods of scoreless play James Hyatt was able to get the hosts on the board at the 19:30 mark of the second off passes from Josh Obregon and Stefan Brucato. The Wildcats led 1-0 after the first intermission.
The Roos continued to battle looking for the equalizer but Johnson & Wales added a second score on a scramble in front of net. Fran Mackin lifted the puck over the blocker of SUNY Canton goaltender
Spencer Landry (New Hartford, NY) off a rebound with 2:37 remaining. SUNY Canton pulled Landry with 1:35 remaining but was unable to get on the scoreboard late.
Dave Schneider (Indianapolis, IN) led the Roos with four shots, while
George Curry (Schaumburg, IL) and
Josh Sova (Oswego, NY) recorded three shots apiece. Landry made 28 saves in net, while Joey Ballmer stopped 23 shots for the Wildcats. The two goals surrendered are the fewest goals given up by the Roo defense this season.
The men's hockey team returns to the ice Sunday at 4:50 p.m. when they take on Becker College. Stay up to date with the latest news directly from the SUNY Canton Athletics department by "liking" us on
