Beasley Scores as Men’s Hockey Falls in Closing Moments at Geneseo

Geneseo, NY – Ben Beasley (Burlington, ON) netted his first collegiate goal to give SUNY Canton an early lead but Geneseo scored the game-winner with just 1:08 remaining to earn a 3-1 victory on Saturday evening.
 
Beasley opened the scoring at 15:20 of the first period with the Roos (5-12-1) on the power play. He received a pass from Brett Costello (Lombardy, ON) and lit the lamp for his first collegiate goal as SUNY Canton led 1-0 after one. Louie Puig (Chicago, IL) was big stopping all 17 shots he faced in the opening 20 minutes.
 
Tyler Brickler evened the score at one apiece midway through the second period as the Knights took advantage with the skater advantage. The teams were tied at 1-1 after two periods and remained that way until late in the final frame.
 
With just 2:58 remaining in the game SUNY Canton was whistled for slashing giving Geneseo a crucial power play opportunity. The Roos nearly killed the chance but with just 10 seconds left in the power play Cam Hampson found the back of the net for the eventual game-winner.
 
Following the goal SUNY Canton was called for another penalty and after a second infraction the Knights were able to convert on another goal in a 5-on-3 chance for the 3-1 final.
 
Puig was remarkable in net stopping 50 shots in net and not surrendering a single goal with the Roos at even strength. Matt Leon made 23 saves for Geneseo.
