Box Score

Winchendon, MA – Junior Louie Puig (Chicago, IL) stopped all 27 shots he faced en route to his first career shutout, while freshman Trenton Yule (Oswego, NY) lit the lamp for the first time as the men's hockey team picked up a 5-0 road win against Franklin Pierce University on Friday evening.

SUNY Canton would strike first at 5:43 of the second. Eric Witzel (Ottawa, ON) hit Yule from the right-wing side in the slot. Yule beat Franklin Pierce netminder Etienne Roy in the top-right corner for the 1-0 lead on his first collegiate goal. Kyle Matsumoto (Walnut, CA) was also credited with an assist on the play.

Just three minutes later the Roos took a two-goal lead on Witzel's team-leading eighth tally of the season. Witzel skated through the left-wing circle and cut out in front slipping the puck through the five-hole of Roy. Joe Casale (Niagara Falls, NY) and Yule earned helpers on the play.

SUNY Canton would extend its lead to three with 1:10 left in the middle period on a Josh Sova (Oswego, NY) tally. George Curry (Schaumburg, IL) played a cross-slot pass from left to right that met a cutting Sova near the right post who placed a one-timer into the back of the net for his fifth of the year. The Roos took a commanding 3-0 lead into the second intermission.

The Roos continued their momentum early on in the third period registering a pair of goals 34 seconds apart. At the 5:34 mark Curry delivered the puck from the right-wing half boards to Sova at the left circle. He quickly beat Roy for an insurance marker. Just seconds later Dave Schneider (Indianapolis, IN) netted his sixth of the year on a scramble out in front. Witzel and Matsumoto picked up helpers leading to the 5-0 final.

Puig stopped 27 shots in his first career shutout, while Roy made 22 saves for the Ravens.
