Canton, NY – Playing their third game in three days the SUNY Canton men's hockey team came up on the short end falling 5-0 to visiting Stonehill College on Sunday afternoon at the Roos House.
Despite six penalties neither team found the back of the net in the opening period as the teams registered 10 shots apiece. After much of the second half was scoreless the Skyhawks got on the board at the 16:44 mark. Robbie Dorgan collected a loose puck in front and put it over a sprawled out
Christopher Marsillo (Lincroft, NJ) for the early lead. Richard Harris earned an assist on the play as Stonehill led 1-0 after two.
With 37 seconds left on the power play Stonehill made it 2-0 at the 4:10 mark of the third on Dorgan's second of the game. His shot went off the blocker and inside the near post. Six minutes later Dorgan set up a Harris goal on an important insurance marker.
Kevin Airoldi made it 4-0 on a short-handed tally at 11:59 off a pass from Thomas Jenkins. Down four and on the power play the Roos elected to pull the goalie in favor of a 6-on-4 skater advantage. The Skyhawks were able to take advantage with 3:54 to play as Harris netted his second of the game on the empty-netter for the 5-0 final.
Marsillo made 26 saves in net for SUNY Canton, while Chris Tasiopoulos stopped 33 in the shutout for the Skyhawks. Stonehill went 1-for-7 on the power play, while killing all eight of the Roos opportunities.
