Canton, NY – The women's volleyball team controlled the match from start to finish downing visiting Plattsburgh State in straight sets, 3-0 (25-16, 25-8, 25-11) on Tuesday evening at the Roos House.
The win improves the Roos to 6-1 on their home court as SUNY Canton has swept all six of those matches. The lone loss came to No. 17 nationally-ranked Clarkson University.
SUNY Canton controlled the opening set 25-16, producing eight kills to just one error. The Roos carried their momentum into the second stanza opening a 12-3 advantage that led to a dominating, 25-9 second set victory.
The hosts closed it out in straight sets with the 25-11 win in the third set. The Roos hit .367 as a team, their highest percentage of the season. Meanwhile, SUNY Canton forced Plattsburgh State to hit -0.80 on their 75 attack attempts, which proved to also be the Roos best defensive effort of the season.
Kelsy Cornish posted five kills on Tuesday night. Caitlin Grimshaw (Adams, NY) and
Jessica Reynolds (Oakville, ON) posted match-highs of eight kills each, while
Morgan Bills (Walworth, NY) and
Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) chipped in five putdowns apiece.
Mackenzie Mynter (Churchville, NY) pinpointed six services aces, while
Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) and Bills had three aces of their own each. Mynter assisted a match-high 21 kills, while Carroll recorded 11 digs.
SUNY Canton controlled play at net with 10 total team blocks as the Cardinals went without a single block. Maggie Schrantz led Plattsburgh with four kills and Jackie Mariotti posted 10 digs.
The women's volleyball team is back in action this weekend at the Geneseo Invitational. The Roos play host Geneseo at 7 p.m. Friday, followed by match-ups with Oswego State and Medaille on Saturday.
