Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team earned two victories on Friday without dropping a single set as they swept SUNY Potsdam and Houghton College at the Roos House in Canton. The Roos got past the Bears 3-0, (25-20, 25-19, 25-9) before earning a straight set victory over the Highlanders (25-22, 25-14, 25-20).
In its opening match of the day the hosts staved off cross-town rival SUNY Potsdam early winning the first two sets by five and six points, respectively. The Roos proved to be the better team in a dismantling, 25-9 third set win. SUNY Canton put down 33 kills compared to just 20 for the visitors.
Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) led the attack with eight kills, while
Caitlin Grimshaw (Adams, NY) and
Morgan Bills (Walworth, NY) posted eight and six put-downs, respectively.
Mackenzie Mynter (Churchville, NY) finished with a double-double registering match-bests of 26 assists and 10 digs.
Kelsy Cornish had 16 kills in two wins for the Roos on Friday.The Roos continued to outhit their opponents in the nightcap tallying 38 kills, while the Highlanders floored just 20 balls in the match. The first stanza proved to be a tight one as SUNY Canton earned a three-point win, 25-22. However, the Roos showed their mental toughness finishing off the match and a perfect day in the second and third sets, 25-14 and 25-20.
Grimshaw produced an impressive outing flooring 13 kills to go with a .345 hitting percentage.
Jessica Reynolds (Oakville, ON) dug up a match-high 18 balls, while
Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) posted 14 digs. Cornish tallied eight kills and
Rachel Lowther (Woodbridge, VA) put down six balls. Mynter had a productive all-around game with 25 assists and seven digs.
