Balanced Scoring Leads Roos to 86-49 Rout of Alfred State




Canton, NY – Ten different Roos scored five or more points as the SUNY Canton men's basketball team cruised past visiting Alfred State College, 86-49, Saturday at the Roos House.

The 37 point win was the largest margin of victory for a SUNY Canton men's basketball team since they opened the 2011-12 season with an 82-43 victory over SUNY Environmental Science & Forestry. 
 
SUNY Canton (6-13) set the tone from the start scoring 20 of the contest's first 23 points as six different players scored over the 5:27 span. Alfred State hung tough responding with a 17-6 spurt of its own to get within 26-20 with 8:56 left in the opening half. The Roos outscored the Pioneers 24-7 over the final nine minutes to take control of the game, 50-27, heading to the locker rooms.
 
The Roos continued to dictate the pace of play and controlled the game as all 12 players scored and played at least nine minutes. SUNY Canton kept its foot on the gas pedal extending the lead to as many as 41 en route to the 37-point win.
 
Kam Peterkin posted a season-high in points for the 2nd consecutive game, this time 13.
Romario Fletcher (Queens, NY) led the balanced scoring output with 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting, while Kam Peterkin (Harlem, NY) posted a season-high 13 points to go with a team-high three steals. Scott Bartenstein (Potsdam, NY) added 13 points going 3-for-6 from beyond the arc as the only other double-digit scorer and also dished out four assists.
 
Rashad Richardson (Rochester, NY) tallied eight points and five rebounds. Sam Annorh (Queens, NY) netted seven points and a game-high five assists. The Roos were effective spreading the floor as 18 of their 28 made field goals came off assists.
 
SUNY Canton forced 23 Alfred State turnovers, while giving the ball up just 11 times which led to a 32-12 edge in points off turnovers. The Roos also held advantages in points in the paint (32-22), bench points (41-31) and second chance points (18-11) as the hosts never trailed from tip to final buzzer.
 
Tavon Moore was the lone Pioneer in double figures with 11 points, whileAdam Fezza added eight points.
