Houghton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Houghton squad as they fell, 104-89, on the road. The win improves the Highlanders to 2-5, while the loss drops the Roos to 0-6.
 
Khalil Bratton (Queens, NY) led the Roos with 27 points, as he was remarkably accurate draining 10 of his 13 attempts from the floor. Khalid Vaughn (New York, NY) and Sam Annorh (Queens, NY) added 14 and 13 points, respectively. Romario Fletcher (Queens, NY) recorded 10 points and Scott Dixon (Brooklyn, NY) finished with nine. Tyler McQuaid paced the Highlanders with game-highs of 28 points and 15 rebounds. Four other Houghton players finished in double figures.
 
The hosts started the game on a 9-0 run that included six points from McQuaid. Houghton never trailed in the contest and opened up a 12 point lead at 45-33 at intermission. McQuaid had 15 first half points, while Bratton led the Roos with 10 points in the opening stanza.
 
Houghton led by as many as 24 with 10:22 left in the second half as they cruised to the 104-89 victory. The Highlanders shot a blistering 61 percent from the floor and hit on 47 percent of their three-point attempts, while SUNY Canton converted 40 percent of its field goal attempts.
 
The Roos committed just 10 turnovers in the game, while forcing Houghton to give up the ball 28 times. SUNY Canton had edges in points off turnovers (30-8), bench points (47-36) and points in the paint (42-36), while Houghton controlled rebounding (56-27) and second chance points (21-9). The Roos got to the free throw line 18 more times than the Highlanders.
