Canton, NY – Lateef Johnson Jr. poured in 29 points, Jahdeuir Reese and Bryon Streb had a career-high and season-high respectively, and the SUNY Canton men's basketball ended their season rattling off three straight wins after a final score of 109-87 Saturday against the Fredonia Blue Devils.

THE BASICS
  • Result: SUNY Canton 109, Fredonia 87
  • Location: Stan Cohen Court – Canton, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (7-18, 6-12 SUNYAC) | Buffalo State (3-22, 3-15 SUNYAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was a hot shooting first half for both sides with the Roos looking good early after a 14-7 lead just four minutes in.
  • Almost 10 minutes, in the Roos were ahead by a double-digit margin, 37-27 after Chris Nastasi canned a pair of free throws.
  • Fredonia then went on a torrid stretch, looking unstoppable offensively in the final six minutes of the first half. 24 points for the Blue Devils in a six-minute span pulled them ahead 51-50.
  • However, Reese ended up taking a long shot from beyond half court at the buzzer that banked in and despite the big offensive performance late in the half, the Blue Devils ended up behind 53-51 at the break.
  • The beginning of the season half was marred by fouls and free throws. The Blue Devils were able to pull ahead 58-57, but a 10-0 run by the Roos made it 67-58.
  • SUNY Canton was ever so slowly able to bring their lead up as they barely missed any shots, and got the offensive rebounds when they did.
  • Eventually the Roos eclipsed 100 and were able to reach as much as 109 after a couple made threes by Lateef Johnson Jr. late.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Lateef Johnson Jr. finished the game with 29 points on a solid 12-for-16 shooting and also had nine rebounds. Reese scored 24, beating his previous career high of 22 that he had reached twice. The newcomer was also 8-for-9 from the field.
  • Bryon Streb scored a season high 22 in the win and also had seven assists in what was one of his best games of the season. Nastasi had 15 and Sean Quinn put in 13 as well.
  • Four players on the side of the Blue Devils reach at least 10 in what was a strong offensive game for them. Ethan Sokolowski was just one assist shy of a triple-double with 16 points, 10 boards, and nine dimes.
