Roos Fall to Clarkson

Box Score (Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men's soccer team took on Clarkson University Wednesday night at home and the visiting team came away with a 2-0 victory.

Wednesday's game was International Roo-vuzela night as nearly 500 fans were given the plastic horns made popular at World Cup soccer games around the world.  The game was also an opportunity to celebrate and honor the many different backgrounds and home countries of the players and students at SUNY Canton.

Under a constant barrage of horn blaring through 90 minutes of action, Wednesday's game became a defensive struggle.  Much of the first 10 minutes of the contest was played at or around midfield.  Clarkson broke through the Roos backline in the 17th minute to score the first goal of the night.  After a scramble for the ball in front of SUNY Canton's net, Clarkson's Brian Buckner was able to get a shot off just past the Roos William Banahene (Rochester, N.Y.) who was forced to dive to his right to try and make a stop.

SUNY Canton regrouped and started to push the ball more into the offensive end, but Clarkson's back line stood strong and eventually took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The Roos did a good job controlling the ball in the second half, but again couldn't get through the Knights stingy defense.  Clarkson's second goal came in the 68th minute.  SUNY Canton cleared their defensive zone after a deep kick from goalie Saverino  Spagnolo, but Clarkson pushed it right back and Angelo DiFrancesco snuck behind the defense and caught Banahene off guard for a 2-0 advantage.

The Roos hit the road for games at Keuka College on Oct. 20 and Daemen College on Oct. 21, before returning home to face Daemen again on Oct. 28.
